Once someone has paid, what to them is a good deal of money, and invested a good deal of time, and become emotionally involved with a particular mentor and his program, they’ll fight like hell to defend it.  

At least we don’t have rent control and it’s in the IL constitution that rent control is illegal otherwise Chicago would for sure have it by now.

Rent control laws in LA are a little scary to me.

This works well if it's an MTR or STR type situation and you are in control of the lock.
