A qualified residence means the taxpayer's principal residence and one other residence (second home) of the taxpayer selected to be a qualified residence.The reform bill also includes limitations around the amount of home equity indebtedness both by itself and relative to acquisition indebtedness.I would emphasize my original comment, consult a trusted tax advisor before using home equity loans as an investment funding strategy in tax years 2018 and beyond.I imagine this new bill will be keeping our tax people fully engaged for a while!

@Tyrel McAllister, my son who's a "gamer" missed his opportunity to get into bitcoin early, but knows a fellow gamer who didn't miss, and who cashed (as it turns out, a little early) a few months ago, and has bought 20+ houses around Victoria, Australia, including his own home in arguably the best Melbourne suburb (Toorak).

You wouldn't actually purchase the property from a wholesaler, unless the wholesaler is the owner of said property - and then you would just be buying a deal.There are several ways to wholesale, but ultimately you would be purchasing the wholesaler's position in the real estate purchase contract, and that wholesaler would then assign that contract to you as the buyer.You probably wouldn't use your agent in this scenario because agency has to be created prior to engaging in contracts - and Real Estate contracts are different than Agency contracts.
