One of ours in suburban Detroit has asbestos siding that a previous owner covered with vinyl. we were told the safest thing is to leave it alone/not disturb it.Are you looking to cover/remove for safety or cosmetic reasons?

One relevant question: In the event the third party prevails against your seller, would any judgments/awards attach to the property by some legal mechanism, after you bought it, or would it be just personally against the then previous owner?

I found this website http://maps.cityofrochester.gov/propinfo/  This shows the previous year's tax assessment for properties in Monroe county. 

The building was was built as a duplex but a previous owner had not followed through with requirements to keep using it as a duplex.
