Don't be surprised if you have an adjustable rate mortgage, if there is a pre-payment penalty, if the rate is higher, if it's only a 20 year term....and some have ALL of these restrictions on the loans. 

I would say as a general rule whichever one has the highest interest rate, if they have the same interest rate which it appears they do pay off the one with the lowest balance first.

Why just shoot for a duplex, why not go for a 3 or 4 unit, similar lending rules should apply.

BP'ersI have a very basic question on the 1031 rule as I have never completed this type of transaction.

It was one of the "requirements" when negotiating with the bank back when I was tied to a set of "stricter" rules.

The problems that come up seem to be the rule and not the exception when you're not ready.

I guess on the buy side a general rule of thumb is if it relates to the financing or repairs it's on you.

Is this something worth swapping out or is it the rule of function over fashion?

I’m curious how two inspectors who are supposed to know the rules, regs, guidelines (what ever they go by) , came up with differing inspection results. 

The courts may rule to make you whole, but they are not going to let you walk away profiting from him breaking the lease.
