If you needed to open up walls and then patch them it might make sense to use a GC since they would handle the demo, patch up, and clean up while the electrician would just wire up the place.

It will be MUCH easier for you to renovate when the unit is vacant, and you can do it on your own time, much smoother and you won't have to worry about cleanup in the off days.B) If you ARE renewing with him, his stuff will be there regardless of now or later, if you have the funds/time, suck it up and do it now.
