The downside was he had a lot of "free" help and many aspects of construction were already builder grade products but they were also installed poorly.

I have seen manufacturers discount their product(s) up to 75% off because they know they are competing for the business.  

You have many productive years ahead of you, all you have to do is make them count.

They offer good products too.

Unless you start working as an Ibanker and transition into a private equity firm working for investments and can accrue enough knowledge, investor connections and get very good at selling a vision (always tougher than selling a product), then you are more likely to do it by acquiring a large portfolio or merging a lot of small portfolios together.

I am not an accountant but intangible property will generally have something called "amortization," which in essence is similar to depreciation that allows you to write off the useful life of items like software, trademarks, other intellectual property, closing costs paid on a loan that can be deducted over the life, etc these are usually costs of assets or items paid at one time but allowed to be deducted over time.
