Month to month lets you move to place you like better if you find one.In the mean time register for Section 8 and see where that leads to.Then maybe once you have a shower and bed, go look for a Temp Job at a Temp service and start earning some money and increase the quality of your life.I see that as a workable strategy for you.

But as a word of caution, in a hot market the good deals are going to move very fast so I would have your ducks in a row with financing before sending out offers and explore other ways to make the deal work such as getting more bids or consider other ways to drive down rehab costs or increasing ARV such as adding a bed or bath.
