Speak to an advisor as I am not one but I believe Your cost basis is going to be an issue when you sellLet’s say you assume the loan today for $120k and in ten years you sell it for $500k.

Of course, it would need to be non-owner occupied (investment property).   

Especially at a macro level, people aren't moving to New England, they are moving out.

If they only look at comparable sales, they will be including Handyman specials/fixer uppers in their valuation.

If so, the STR strategy could be beneficial in your case.

Note local rules could be more extreme.
