Well this whole deal is going to get super complicated as it does appear to mirror to some extent those complaints you cited.. 

Its a whole different caliber of contractor you deal with in new construction (typically).

I learned a lot from them and they don't make you pay for a whole lot of software and such either.. .or at least they didn't used to.
