I used to use a "Note Payable" other liability to pay out JV partners but I've found that I can just do it straight from the "other asset" NPN.For performing notes, I was advised to use Income and Expense accounts but the only ones we had recently we flipped after a few months so I stuck with the above formula.

Usually any lender would require anyone making a note to execute the security agreement as well, so if there were other parties, co-borrowers or guarantors their names will also appear in the security assignment....so I see no issue of secrecy or privacy except that filing a note publishes all the terms and conditions.
