I am travelling to the SF bay area next week for a series of seminars, and at some point I will be in Dallas (I notices you are in the Austin area).

We know it will be worth it, though, when I am there to see first steps, first words, first day of school, my husband gets to retire young and we can do all our hobbies and travels and everything else.

And you really don't want to have to drive on the freeways during rush hour - especially traveling between Portland / Vancouver. 

Westchester can be pretty pricey -- and I don't claim to know it all that well -- but if you're willing to travel 45 minutes to an hour, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something within your budget.

Get a good accountant who has significant clients who are real estate investors and/or small business people.My accountant is no longer local to me, but he used to be in NH and travels regularly to NH and MA.

Even if he wanted to travel costs alone would make having management a good idea as the returns would go down from the 14.6% expected.If the property was local then I could see that as an option.

It's also interesting that there would be a reverse mortgage on the property if it isn't habitable and probably why they may have initiated an action against the owner.

I was traveling at the time extensively and wanted someone home for my dogs, planning on living in Florida and wanted to have someone watch my house in Montana.
