If your wife is inheriting multi family properties in multiple countries my advice would be to study up the best you can on property management so that when the time comes you have the knowledge and tools to hire a quality property manager for those properties.

My strategy is to have a portfolio with a mix of LTR/MTR-  single family or small multi. 

keep your job and look to get into some syndication for multi-family or partner up with an investor to learn the ropes. 

No, I have not done something like what I am proposing, which is one reason why I'm looking for some input on this forum :)- House hacking would be a good idea, but moving for my family is not an option right now.
