The tax generally does not add up to much, and the IRA should still see a significant benefit of leverage in higher cash-on-cash returns than it would with an all cash purchase.You will want to have experts such as a CPA on your side if you choose to pursue such a strategy, but as I have noted, the boost in return can be well worth the administrative overhead.If you are self-employed and have no full time employees, a Solo 401(k) may be an alternative self-directed plan option, and such 401(k) based plans are not subject to UDFI taxation on leveraged real estate investments.
