Years ago when my wife was getting her education she was presented with a choice to further her education and obtain her doctorate or settle for a masters .She knew it would mean many more years of school (12 years altogether) and well over 100,000$ more in student debt on top of what was already owed .

My big 66k federal student loan pile is at 5.75%, while my 10k student loan pile is half a 9.5% interest loan, and a 14.5% interest loan...both variable.

Because if you pull it, it is a hard hit and depending on their goals in life (college, need student loans, new baby on the way, anticipating needing a new car), then a hard hit impacts them for a long time.
