I guess the most practical aspect of it is to have a sewer camera inspection first to determine where the fault is.

I do the same thing when they check out, which I know they have done because I have outside cameras and a smart lock that monitors activity.

We have all of the measures in place that you listed, but these fraudulent guests know how to get around the vetting, agree to house rules, enter in the back door where there are no cameras, ect. 

I always have a sewer camera inspection done before I buy.
