@Bjorn Ahlblad For the outside solution I was planning on digging a trench around the perimeter of the house, installing PVC drain pipe and a sump pump, and then backfilling.I don't know if this is the right solution or not.

If it has the iron/metal drain pipes under sink then they tend to corrode with rust and then collapse when you get water turned on, which means you now have to replace all of that with PVC.
