@Nick Rice  Hi Nick, both of the properties I bought were exactly like @Todd Fithian mentioned above.  

The withdrawal noted that I had not accepted the counter offer by 2:30 pm central time, and claimed the seller therefore had the right to withdraw (the original counter offer did not mention a time deadline - only the date of August 19).I e-mailed my real estate agent to ask why the seller had withdrawn the offer.

I will now lose money on rent with the smaller square footage.The code enforcement officer said he mentioned these issues to the sellers and the sellers' agent.

I try mentioning RE to everyone I come in contact with. 

You may or may not want to rent to a pole dancer, but if you don't, then their occupation is not a reason for denial and shouldn't be mentioned.

Aluminum siding, pitched roof (not sure on useful age). wood front porch that needs updating.

Like @Charles Parrish mentioned, who controls the property, controls the deal.

I forgot to mention in the above post that they are all 1 bed 1 bath units.
