Unless you are pricing your unit(s) way too low, anyone who can afford to pay for 28+ nights for a STR have plenty of other places to go. 

I'd love to network with some fellow rookies and hop on a Zoom call once or twice a week to work through some random houses on the MLS (I'd provide link and virtual drinks lol) to build our confidence and knowledge base.Afterwards would love to connect with an experienced investor to quickly gloss over a few to see if we've headed in right place, (this might require real drinks if in Houston!

there are plenty of opportunities in the US no doubt.But keep in mind if you get to some of the satellite cities around PDX prices mello out.

There are plenty of owners and managers out there still doing well with second hand furnishings and providing the bare minimum accommodations to budget travelers or short stay tenants.Once you figure out your niche in your market this answer will reveal itself to you.The key to quality vacation rentals that are more of hospitality experience is in the operations and management.
