The investment is greater- $2 or so for a curtain rod and I find room darkening curtain panels on sale for $15/ pair or less- however I think the benefits out weigh the added cost in my opinion. 

He asked if there was anyway we would consider removing the wall paneling and installing drywall/plaster as we have in the other units.

The panel has been upgraded but it doesn't look like the wiring throughout the house is.

If you have 2 panel boxes its simple and usually easy .

My roof is definitely due for replacement (there are small holes in the sheathing and panels have fallen off).I also wish to install solar panels on my roof (it has always been a dream of mine).
