So I should file it under the Schedule E.But my question is, how do I actually file it on the schedule E?

That includes many of the deals created by students of syndication classes (who typically would entice investors with juiced projected returns from creating multiple equity classes...which also generally increases risk). 

I imagine it's hard to tell from a burnt lump of plastic if the smoke detector was defective, the battery was defective, or if the battery had any juice left.Let's assume the smoke detector was operational, how does that stop a building from burning to the ground?

The juice wasn't worth the squeeze for me but I did not do a deep dive into it either.

We tell them they will get updates via e-mail, we send a mass e-mail out when it is rented "thank you for your interest, we wanted to let you know that the unit is now rented."
