That sounds like a scam to me.

There are also some lease scams going as well, an old lady in Dallas buys oil rights just before RE closings and the buyer thinks they get them, there's a suit going now as title insurance doesn't insure mineral rights in TX according to the attorney.

How do you know that they are not trying to Scam you?

I would say be careful with the above as basic search on google gave more scam complaints than site references.

Go to youtube and look up BBB scams and you;ll see an awesome video that I think dateline did about the BBBs shortcomings.

If I do open them, they just have scam conotations to me, since I know they're not really giving me a check.

Is this a scam or do investors in that area do this often?

I thought this was just spam or someone trying to scam me so I just kept throwing the letters away.
