Along the same lines:Why should my nephew with 4 kids get a $1,000 per child tax gift?

I would personally feel more responsible for the mother who reared me than for the father who gave no child support.

And if the parents own something but aren't willing to help their child rent her/his first apartment, well that tells me all I need to know.

If you take the approach of them being secured and getting their money back along with their profit coming ahead of the life of your first child, you are going into it with the right frame of mind.
