Just out of curiosity, why are you all targeting a house with a lot of rooms instead of a multi-unit house.

We are now at the point we'd like to move into small multi-family.  

I'm toying with the idea of doing the fixes/upgrades and sell it in the spring to find a multi-family to live in while renting out the other units. 

Hey so I'm pursuing my first deal on a multi-family unit in Columbus, Ohio.  

If not do you already have a plan or system in place?

Flip houses, have some single family home and small multi family rentals, and looking at buying a mobile home park.If you have any interest in the mobile home park space or any knowledge of it, let me know and maybe we can get together and I can share what I've learned.Jon

our county has an online GIS system that has all owners names and addresses. you could call the county it's located in and see if they have that system too. makes it super simple to look up all details.

Regardless of which route I take (SFH or Multi), I plan to base my numbers off of the returns I would need to sustain a buy and hold investment.  

We share a number of things in common - I'm also an engineer by day, have most of my real-estate investment locally in buy/hold multi-family, and have a similar set of goals to those you articulated. 

I am in the MA area and looking to purchase multi families.
