When you are relying on someone else to put eyes on the property you have to understand that what might look like a great property to them, because it very well might be compared to the 500 dumps around it, which they are use to seeing, might be completely unacceptable to your standards coming from a nicer place.Now I cant speak to the Bay area in particular, but I live in DC, and Ive lived in Boston, which while not as expensive as San Fran, both in the top 10 in home prices, both of which have areas where the prices are both much more moderate than the expensive areas people typically think of.

But I take public transportation to my current job but within the next two months will require me to have use of a vehicle.

For perspective homes seem to rent from 1600-2500 in this area and a "cheap" home is around the mid 300 to low 400k mark once you are north of foothill prices seem to climb.Also, does the inclusion of transportation increase rents/prices in relation to the savings over private transportation ?

I love getting back to Boston!

I've essentially developed my own form of workforce housing to play a small role in filling a huge void in the Boston housing market.

When the house arrives at the site it is on a steel trailer, but that is only for transportation. 

My father in law and and sister in law live next to Boston and a 4 bed 3 bath house up there can go for 400k in some areas or more.I didn't know they had some cheap property up there.
