I rolled my Traditional 401K over to a Traditional IRA and then converted the Traditional IRA into a Roth IRA.I taxes I had to pay were based on the value of the Traditional IRA at the time of conversion.

I've been able to increase my income by 10-12% year-over-year; I pay myself ~25% of my monthly income (that jumps up closer to 30% when taking into account 6% Roth IRA contribution).I also used that time to educate myself - confession, I've been lurking on the site for a while now, reading tons of posts and soaking up all the brilliant BP knowledge!

There are so many factors that goes into that calc (Federal Tax, State tax, upfront capitalization, if the investment is held in IRA, etc.) i decided as long as i have decent gross return i'm ok with that.

Hello all, new to the boards here, I have a question re my IRA and tax penalty -  did a 50K draw (60 day rollover) from my IRA (Traditional) to cover some credit card debt and medical bills and had planned to redeposit it within the 60 days to avoid the penalty by using a HELOC & applied at my bank.

We went to our bank and they tried to dissuade us from using our money for flipping and buying and holding and went on ad nauseaum about IRA's, mutual funds, etc, stating we would lose money.
