I would like one day that they sell washers and dryers that has built in Apple Pay or Google Wallet capabilities, and all a tenant has to do is to wave it near the washer or dryer and press their finger onto the Touch ID and I get paid as the machine unlocks for 1 load.Or may be I know what the tenants like to drink and I set up a vending machine that pour their favorite ice cold beers from dispensers and I get paid online and the Touch ID knows if he/she is over 21. 

Because on the one hand, almost everyone I talk to holds this guy up on a pedestal, and on the other hand, I have a front row seat to the Chicago-esque political machine from which he was spawned.

I'd agree with @Fradel Schaechter the only thing Id add is don't try to "boil the ocean" go with the one that you're most passionate/curious about if your passionate dont worry about the money work for the experience (do it part time if need be) and see where it leads@Fradel Schaechter you are a machine lol.

I think he rented a "Ditch Witch" machine for all of this.

The other smoking area was in the basement with the washing machines, if you catch my drift, and all joined there from time to time, even the owner.

If I could do it all over again, I would have become a heavy machine operator (think large dozers and cranes) out of high school and stuck with that for my income stream.

I find the absence of a time machine to be one of the most vexing aspects of investing :) But seriously, it doesn't matter what things were worth, only what they're worth today and their future expected risk adjusted returns.
