The day before being foreclosed they brought in a bankruptcy attorney so I agreed to a forbearance (simply an extension before I would foreclosure) for $1,500.

It's similar to the banks who start issuing credit cards a few months after someone has filed bankruptcy knowing this person does not have any other choice but to pay.

The law might say the landlord is responsible to pay for your relocation expenses, but if he's broke and about to file bankruptcy, you'll never see that money anyway.

Was only able to pay the interest for a couple of years and the amount kept rising every month---but I had to survive and was determined not to file bankruptcy-----I REFUSED to do that!

Without a decision by a judge, the tenant can always fight the amount - but she'll have to sue you to do it, which she probably can't afford to do.Of course, she can always file bankruptcy, which would even wipe out a judgment.I think the easiest thing for you to do, is hire a landlord collection agency.
