The trade off course for STR route is more management/cleaning of guests coming and going/risk of no bookings vs not needing to deal with long term renters months at a time if that once they move in.

Plus, we haven't even talked about the tax deductibles, depreciation, and how the house hack has the potential to off-set your taxes, which is another aspect way of making cashflow (obvioulsy verify with a CPA).

Because I still have that equity and if I were to liquidate it I would be better off.

If you have the drive, it is never to early to learn real estate and make a really solid living off of it.
