What kinds of software have you used to manage your properties that you would recommend?

I understand that reading is valuable, which is why I'm curious to know which book you would recommend for a beginner like me to start with.I have yet to buy my first property but my goal is to house hack every year,  while buying and renting properties to hold long-term until my portfolio brings more cashflow than my W-2 job.

Hi Jerrell, I would recommend consulting with a local NYC RE attorney to confirm NYC tenant/landlord laws and regulations 

In this market I would recommend hard money, would love to connect and discuss your options however!

Recommendations for step by step land investing; for affordable price without any fluff...to the point. 

@David C.if you don't want to own individual properties, then yes, syndications are one option along the spectrum of passive.i am not 'recommending' them, because they are not something i have much knowledge of. 

What book(s) do you recommend I start my education with?

I'd be careful doing this, and I'd recommend trying to find some more separation possibilities within the house if you're not comfortable.
