@Lane Patterson This has worked for me . . .Rip out all carpet and pad, then seal the floors with shellac or oil-base paint or primer like KILLZ.

First you should find out what kind of fuel do they use...gas, oil, propane, etcSecond you should determine if its a furnace or a boiler.
