We prepare a move-in gift package that includes cleaning supplies (degreaser, carpet spot cleaner, vinegar, baking soda, magic eraser, disinfectant wipes), cutting board, plunger, hand soap, dish soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, presented in a cleaning bucket and reusable shopping bag. ($30)  At move-in we also loan the tenant the use of drop cloth runners (to protect the flooring on move-in day), furniture moving blankets, furniture sliders, furniture lifting straps, a step stool, and a picture hanging tool kit (with small hammer and picture hooks).

Our carpets are so old, they have stains that magically return after shampooing, and the walls have places that crumble, the bathroom fan is the cheapest kind you can get so it gets moldy if we don't clean it constantly....we've probably paid so much extra in cleaning supplies, too, that wouldn't have been needed if we had updates.

If you magically have $3k sitting around somewhere that you didn't use to lower your total payout on the current car, you'd have to use that money to make up the difference, and go find another vehicle.

I think you need to come at this with the understanding that people find themselves in times of need, and wholesalers help people in need (if they're good wholesalers).There's no magic formula... no silver bullet.
