There is a lot of talk about getting liability protection through LLCs and people on here who purchase umbrella policies to hedge against the risks of owning property.I don't want to debate whether any of these help, I want to know if you or anyone you personally know has had a claim on an investment property that has exceeded the policy limits. 

Like a banker, an insurance guy is someone who sells you an umbrella in a heatwave but wants it back when it rains.

And it would work within KW, under the KW commercial umbrella.

I plan to buy 1 million umbrella coverage for my mother (her total assets is less than 1 million). will that be enough?

Make sure you have enough insurance, umbrella policy. 

We are already planning on getting an umbrella policy but would also like to take advantage of the protections afforded by an LLC (which undeniably aren't too strong in the great state of CA).

LLC or Umbrella policy?

@Connor Corkrin Unless you have lots of assets you may be better to buy an umbrella policy.

While an LLC does offer personal asset protection, there are other ways to cover yourself as well, such as an umbrella policy.
