On many of these properties, we would stop by on Fridays (as that was payday) to collect the rent.I can't tell you how many times the door was answered by a mother with small children who said the husband went off drinking with his buddies and hasn't come home yet with the rent money.On many of those occasions, the mother and children didn't have any food and my parents would bring them something to eat.Is that the way to run a business, probably not.Is it a way to have compassion for those less fortunate than one's self, probably so.
