My family has a chunk of unused HELOC; would it be a smart move to use the HELOC to buy in cash and then pursue an SBA loan after owning it? 

Did they hire a new employee who is renting to friends and family or does not know how to screen or collect late rent? 

For example, if a family is displaced due to extensive water damage that will take a few months to repair, the insurance company will then look to find temporary housing for their customer/displaced family.
