does anyone in or around the Farmington hills michigan area have a good HVAC company that they can refer to me for a full system?

You mentioned some of the mechanical systems have been upgraded; you will want to find out how extensive the upgrades are, and if there is any original stuff (particularly electrical) still remaining. 

So a bit vague I know but it will take a while of consistently working a system to get to where you want to be with this.
