I'm not too familiar with NC tenant laws but I know most of the states up here in New England it is illegal to use the security deposit towards missing rent.

US News recently ranked us #2 overall best state, and this article published last week that put us in the top 10 places Millennials are moving to.The REIA meeting that @Laura Cardenas mentioned is a great spot to meet other investors and network, and there are a couple other meetups in Southern NH as well that meet in Nashua and Manchester.... and if you haven't been through a New England winter yet I wish you the best of luck!
