They often restrict the ability to build lower cost housing.they haven’t been building starter homes since the days of the GI bill and many affluent suburban areas actively restrict multis, smaller units etc. in the name of neighborhood preservation.Great example in Northampton mass, in many ways the archetype of a blue state progressive community: if you took a map overlay of the universally admired downtown area with today’s zoning you see that almost none of it would be legal to build today.
