If you bought a STR and literally never made a single dime on a monthly basis, the fact is, it might still be the best investment of your lifetime. 

I use an investment analysis that spits out a COC and IRR before I invest a dime... and have been generating 20-40% returns on all investments since 2002 So you’re not correct.  

In other words, once I bought it I didn't have to put another dime of my money into it.

I do love the Ferrari type pipes but this car is as fast and other than a little more to buy one you spend not one more dime on it.. they require zero maintenance you take it once a year for a check up if you want  and that's about it.. plus like I said you buy it on line in 30 minutes no dealer BS that no one can stand.Also it makes me money during bumper to bumper I put it on full auto pilot and check my email respond etc etc. but I am not a do it yourself landlord I am a sales guy we are cut from different cloths..

I didn't purchase even a dime's worth of "advice" along the way.

For many of us, the natural beauty, the job opportunities, the weather, the diversity, the liberal mindset of people etc. are an icing on the cake and trust me that icing is awesome even if it costs an extra dime or two.

I still need to remember to keep myself from stepping over dollars to pick up dimes- just cost myself $5k and a month doing that, this is a good reminder. 

Fun to fantasize about but cannot bring myself to spend a dime on it I think I have a better chance finding the golden ticket to the willie wonka chocolate factory Besides, I have seen several people I know that got severely hooked into gambling when they just merely “had fun” and started to gamble.

I haven't taken a dime out.First property purchased off of Auction.com. 

Over 5 years I saved every dime of cashflow, and made a nice profit on the sale as well.
