could you, BEFORE the 1031, change the title of the current farm to show just you and your dad, and have a separate legal agreement saying you owe your other partner x amount within 6 months. cash him out with proceeds from the sale MINUS the anticipated tax hit that you will take from not being able to 1031 that portion?
