I cannot speak for all provinces in Canada, but in most, you use a solicitor/lawyer, preferably one who specialises in Real Estate.

You can find an accountant after you have made your first purchase - there are several who specialise in filing tax returns for non US residents and I can recommend some.

There is a good profit margin for a landlord that specialises in class C/D properties but not for the faint of heart or weak willed landlords.

Too many factors to determine, are you doing the work yourself, or using contractors, if you are using contractors do they specialise in basement conversions, what class of finish are you considering, what is the extent of work required to put in the plumbing.From nothing to finished is going to be more than $40,000 but there are too many unknown variables.
