A non-tenant with no lease is not a great situation for someone to take on at full FMV.I'm very sorry to hear about your mother's situation -- She may have to sell at a discount just to get out from under this. 

Something my mother doesn’t have the skill set to do. 

My mother in law however decided she loved the location so we tore the house down and sold her the lot where she built her home.

Before he died, my father had a long career in real estate, and my mother -- the greatest inspiration in my life -- did a flip entirely on her own and did very well.  

Converted the 3rd car garage to a mother-in-law suite and rented it while I lived there.

I know a couple of people that have had recent success house hacking in Longmont with a mother in law suite in the basement.

@Dan GustavsonI’d also Rent out the RV as an air bnb and then kick the dog out of his house and rent it as a mother in law suite ,throw out the Christmas crap in your attic and rent it to college students , convert your sons tree house to a sober living for men home .

I was in a tough spot with all of these eviction issues in NY right now plus her mother (who also lives there) is elderly and on oxygen so I figured give them 1 year and ill bite the bullet for the time being.
