The more closer to the peak, it is better to pay off the properties, so you have a better position to ride out the next recession.

I keep it simple and wire to a receptacle opposite to any switch...then daisy chain around and from the last recep to the light switch...that goes up to power the light and daisy chains to any additional fixtures (like recessed lights).
