I know this is probably dictated by many factors and local economics, I would just like to have an idea of what others may practice. 

The terms of the contract will dictate whether or not taxes and insurance will be held in escrow and the servicer should handle all of that for you.

Sellers seem to want double what common sense dictates should be paid.
