So my take away seems to be that the two main options for protecting assets are a combination of Land Trusts and LLC's.Thanks @Brandon Diaz for the suggested reads.

@Charles Diaz I would love to sell the property, I was actually going to just a few months ago, however I had an appraiser kind of do his own thing and chose the worst possible comps that put me 3K under what I owe after 7 years of payment on the mortgage!
