By current CA law a renter who is unrelated to the homeowner has almost FOUR MONTHS in which to vacate, AFTER the change of ownership (early in the 2008 debacle I think it was 30 days, and it was a kind of "wild west" with "landlords" renting out properties that didn't even belong to them).
