Community banks are more likely to have flexibility in their underwriting than national banks. 

Local banks have in-house approvals for loans, so often you can explain your case and get more leniency than you would at a regional or national bank.

As women sometimes were not taken seriously make it clear by certified letter and start the official clock the day he signs for the certified letter.Keep the receipt print it out and keep a copy of the letter for yourself that's your proof. 

The good news is we are a nation of LAW and thus she should be able to get some relief from a 2nd year law student I would think.
