Now I'm no botanist but I'm pretty sure that a 1099-c requires certain documentation or certification of the debt, some kind of judgement or decree or arbitration settlement acceptable to the IRS.

I've worked in real estate for years, and we are a transaction coordination company, so we see a TON of contracts...orders of magnitudes higher than any one agentI have never once come across a mediator used to settle a real estate disputeI have see arbitration, where a decision is made in (typically) one day outside of a court room.

I would also put mandatory negotiation, mediation, arbitration in case of a dispute to keep any issues confidential and hopefully keep costs down in avoiding litigation (sometimes med/arbitarion gets a bit costly but that usually occurs when you're dealing w/ complex deals).

If you are still not satisfied your policy likely states disputes are settled by each of you hiring an arbitrator who then decided on a neutral arbitrator and debate until two of them agree.
