Whenever I hear talk of the lottery I think of a phrase similar to what @Anthony Gayden used from a Brother that taught at my high school that I've never forgot:"The lottery is a tax on the stupid" That puts me firmly in the no camp.

@Jay Hinrichs the real interesting trend is HELOCs as a form of refi; regional banks are basically pitching the old 5-year interest-only ARMs as HELOCs to wrap up 1st and 2nd mortgages.

If you look at section 1950.5(c)1, it includes the phrase "however denominated" when talking about the max security deposit you can collect - in other words, whatever you want to call your fees, they're part of the security deposit.
