There is just so much money to be made in the business that it is BOUND to attract the criminals and the thieves.

Car theft is now considered a civil matter and a police report isn't even taken, and as you mentioned, thieves can openly walk out the door of stores with shopping carts filled with goods up to $950 and they're not even arrested.  

Interesting thread, since you've studied psychology I wanted to ask if you about a study on identity goals I recently learned about. 

In an identical unit above where we live, I ripped the paneling down and 3/8 drywalled.

I’m closing on a duplex in a couple weeks that is an identical duplex to the one I bought last December.

Our house will be made of 9 containers (2800 sq ft) and three rentals will all have identical floor plans made of 3 containers each (-1000 sq ft).

We are a bunch of financial people chiming in on a psychology question...and what material stuff means to our identities, extension of ourselves, signaling to others, belonging, memories, etc.

It adds nothing to assure the real identity of the person you're working with and only deludes one to make assumptions.  

Thieves will avoid cameras.You are not responsible for replacing tools, but you are responsible for doing everything reasonable to improve safety.

Since the alarm hardware was also in the house during the latest burglary, the thieves helped themselves to at least one major component of it.
