The other plus is it will cover us if my husband wants to do an excavation job or make a cement countertop for someone (his new passion). 

An IKEA countertop is only 60$, but if you install new countertops the tenant may feel like the increase is warranted.

Just a side note, but I'm assuming the leaking kitchen faucet damaged a laminate countertop and got under the sink, damaging the pressboard cabinet?

Expect to see cigarette burns on the carpets, vinyl floors, window sills, bathrooms fixtures, countertops, etc.

If you're worried about water, aside from buying non-pressboard vanities, you can also seal the exposed edges of the vanity with a polyurethane (learned this trick from countertop installers who do it underneath the counter where the dishwasher and sink go), set it on a waterproof base/pedestal, or just replace it when it starts to warp and rot. 

The kitchen is fine and has nice granite countertops, but it doesn't seem up to snuff for my target demographic.

Hey all,I know the countertops question has been asked quite a bit, but wanted to get some answers from people who have installed butcher block (Ikea specifically) in their rentals and how they have held up.My kitchen will have terracotta tiles, so I'm thinking white cabinets with a light, neutral colour for the walls.

I'll sometimes put in a dishwasher if there is not already kitchen cabinets and I need to make up the extra 2 feet under the laminate countertop.
